Support our Troops

OK, since we just started up this blog, I'm going to have to backfill a bit with material. I'll start it with a letter we received last October from Capt. Doug Traversa, stationed at Camp Phoenix in Kabul, Afghanistan. I love when we get letters, but this one caught me by surprise:

I am a Captain in the Air Force stationed at Camp Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan for one year. While here I volunteer at our tiny library, and I found a Starburst magazine with a label on it saying it was from Comics Legends and Heroes. I am assuming it was a donation to the troops, and I wanted to thank you. We get many donations, as our library is made up entirely of donated books and magazines. If it wasn't a donation, then you may still find it interesting one of your magazines is in Kabul. I'm a long time science fiction fan (for over 30 years), so I enjoyed reading Starburst. I checked out your website and your store looks very nice. However, I live in Tennessee, so I doubt I'll ever be visiting.

We received this letter in response to a donation we made to a Scottish Military Society. We had donated a few hundred magazines to go overseas to our troops. Little did I know that we would actually get fanmail from them. Going back through our archives, this little gem reminds me that I haven't contacted the gentleman to send more books back over there in quite a while. If anyone has some used books they would like to donate to this cause, please bring them in or send them to us. We'll make sure they get to the troops.

Take a look at the tiny library these guys have set up in Kabul. It is supposedly the largest US Library set up in Afghanistan. And they even have a Science Fiction Wing set up! Glad we could help.

Introduction and Ground Rules

It's here! This will be our blog for our community service efforts at Comics Legends and Heroes!

We genuinely feel that we must give back to the community that supports our business. We have charities that are very near and dear to our hearts, and having a business offers unique opportunities to lend a helping hand. Perhaps by posting our efforts within this blog, some of you may volunteer to assist with our community activities. We'll also try to highlight some of the exceptional acts of kindness by our customers as well (you know who you are). Or, just maybe, you'll simply learn of a worthwhile charity of which you were never exposed before.

Whatever the outcome, we hope you find our Comics Community Cares blog worthwhile.

And, probably a big no-no in the world of blogs, but we must establish some ground rules here. There's only one rule, and it's real simple: Please don't slander the causes we choose to support.
